ArtStack May 2022

I started out with some watercolor paper and ink smooshed the background using Old Paper and Weathered Wood Oxides and set it aside to dry.  I fussy cut one of the images from Deb Weiers Wonky Faces from ArtStacks.  I created small splatters using the Weathered Wood Oxide and a fan brush as well as brushed a bit onto the background. I toner foiled some of the background stripes from Deb Weiers Wonky Backgrounds and glued a part of the negative foil onto the background with some Collage Medium then peeled  up the plastic while still a bit damp and rubbed some more Weathered Wood Over to get that sort of grungy look.

I used some sticky dots to glue the figure onto the background then outlined her with my Stabilo black pencil and used a small wet brush to expand the shadow around her to sort of maker her pop and add dimension.  I cut a circle out of the stripped background paper and glued it onto a couple of same sized heavy cardstock to give it some dimension and used a white and black colored pencil to create a shadow and light then grunged it up a bit with some Peeled Paint Oxide and glued it down to a bunch of silver thread.  I cut out some of the words from the Wonky backgrounds and also popped them up on some heavy cardstock to make them sturdy. I altered one of the words to read inSANITY outlined with black pen and red pencil, then added some of the Peeled Paint and Weathered Wood Oxide. I also added a litte piece of blue twine to one of the words. I cut a small circle out of the Wonky Backgrounds paper and also added shadow to it and glued it down to the card panel.  I glued the words down then outlined the whole thing with my black Stabilo pencil and smeared it a bit.  I cut a mat piece out of black cardstock with my Deckle Trimmer and glued the panel down to that then popped the whole thing up onto a Kraft card base.  I added the small dots of dimensionals and she was done!

Art Stacks Paper Design

Today's design features more beautiful papers from Art Stacks!

I created the background with just some Tim Holtz Distress Ink Stains on watercolor paper.

I printed out the design in the background from the Bright and Bold Collection by Lisa Oxley onto some tissue paper. I tore out the portion that I wanted and stuck it down to the paper with some Distress Collage Medium.  and then painted more of the Distress Collage Medium over the top.  Once dry, I spattered white acrylic paint to create, well, the spatters!

I printed the hands holding the flower from the Anemones and Friends paper collection onto some Hamilco glossy cardstock and then fussy cut out the hands and glued them to my background.  I cut out the printed sentiment from the Anemones and Friends collection and then cut it apart and matted each part with some black cardstock and glued it down to the card panel.  I trimmed the whole panel with my deckle edge trimmer and glued it down to a black card base.

You can find these papers and much more inspiration over at Art Stacks!

Love is Love

With Pride month coming up, I figured this year I would drown myself in love rather than sorrow. June 2 marks the second year I have been without my son, Joe.  It's a daily struggle and creating keeps me happy!

For this card I started out by creating the faux tie dye background using re-inkers from Simon Hurley and a watercolor panel.  Video below.

Next, I cut out the words PRIDE and IS from some silver cardstock scrap from the die set Alphanumeric Varsity from Tim Holtz and Sizzix.  I love this set because it has the outlines and the middles! I then cut PRIDE again from some of Tim Holtz metallic cardstock collection in gold.

I cut out the two loved from a die I got when I very first started making cards and did not keep the packaging, so I have no clue where it came from.  If you do, let me know!

I cut out a heart shape in vellum from my Honey Bee die set called Helping Hands.

I stuck the silver PRIDE direct to the cardstock.  I did use a tip Tim gave in one of his live videos of using double-sided tape on the back of the paper. It worked a charm.  Next, I glued down the gold outline.

I put the Love is Love together on the vellum heart and then stuck some foam tape to the back of the IS so I could pop it up.

I cut the main panel down to roughly 3 1/2 x 5 and then cut some of the same gold cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4.  I popped up the main panel onto the gold panel with some foam tape then glued it all down to a white 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card base.

I stuck the little heart down and then glued on some heart embellishments that I got from Sizzix!

Here's the video on how to make faux tie dye.

Father's Day Card #techniquejunkies

I created this mixed media card with Father's Day in mind.

I started with some watercolor paper and stamped with a dark brown ink.  I then used inks to watercolor the image.  I ran it through an embossing folder then I cut it out with a stitched die from my stash and then grunged it up with some Distress Ink.

I made the mat layer with another embossed panel that was colored with the Distress ink and then coated with Distress Glaze to get a leather look.

I stamped the inside of the card base with the sentiment then let it dry.

I glued them together then added some twine and popped them up on a light blue card base.  I added the home made lure and we were done!

Waiting to Retire

I had a lot of fun making this 4 1/4 by 7 inch card.  I started with one of the ink smooshed backgrounds that I made on watercolor paper using various Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks.

I cut the birds from an abstract piece of black cardstock that I had done the "pounce" technique for embossing powder that can be found here.  I used Ranger Princess Gold and Seth Apter Chunky Rust from Emerald Creek. Did the pounce method then used my heat embossing tool to melt it into these amazing little tendrils and blobs.  I then took a piece of black cardstock and smooshed some Versamark ink on it and coated with gold  Ranger Perfect Pearls then glued the blob of melted embossing powder right on top. I was able to get 6 birds out of the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece of cardstock.

Next, I went to work on my "wire."  I made a little straw channel then poured in some Distress Foundry Wax in the color Mined. I noticed that because the string was wet it left a lot of little lines of Foundry wax on my mat and I got to thinking. What if I went ahead and heat set those as well?  Would I get a strand of the wax? So I melted it.  When it cooled I was able to scrape some up from the mat using a shopping card.  More about that in a minute.

I stamped the little letters with Black Soot Distress Archival ink.  I wrapped my "wire" across the front and secured it at the back with some tape.

Next, I went to work on the ground portion. I laid down a pretty heft line of Glossy Accents and started filling it in with the flaky bits leftover from the string gilding, some Distress Mica in Midnight, and some Distress Glitter in Garland. I let that dry then went to work on composing my card.

I popped the birds up on varied heights of foam tape and stacked paper then secured them down.

Next, I added some more of that blob I mentioned earlier in random spots and chose a sentiment from the Tim Holtz Metallic Stickers, secured it down and added a bit more to the bottom of that.

I added some black gems from my stash for the eyes and secured it down to the card base which was cut 5x7 and I trimmed to fit the piece.

Thanks for looking!

Perfect Pearls and Embossing

For this technique we used the stamp SD1113 Magnolia Border from Technique Junkies. By the way all new release stamps are 15% off through May 8! You can still get 10% off using my coupon code TJ10Tracy on everything else except the Gotta Have It All Bundles which are already discounted for you.

I started out with a piece of Navy card stock. You want to use a very dark color with this technique so the Perfect Pearls show up nicely!

I created a jig/guide in my stamping platform because I would be stamping over the finished colored project. I placed the card stock and the stamp in my stamping platform and then stamped it out in silver so that I would be able to see the guidelines of where I would "paint." I left the stamp and guide in place. (see video)

Next, I grabbed my WOW Embossing pen and little by little, a couple at a time "colored" the flowers in with the clear embossing pen. I then "painted" over the embossing ink with Perfect Pearls in the Pearl color.  Next, I moved on to the yellow accents with the same process only using a yellow color Perfect Pearls. Finally, I colored the leaves with a green Perfect Pearls using the same process with the embossing pen and then color.

Now that I had the image all colored, I took it back to my stamping platform and lined it up with my guide.  I brushed the entire thing with anti-static powder then used Versamark ink to stamp over where I had stamped before.  I coated with gold embossing powder and embossed with my heat tool. I used a 4 1/2 inch square die to cut out the design.

To finish it off, I created a mat layer with gold cardstock. and then glued both down to a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 white card base. I finished it off with a few sequins and added a Thank You die cut from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by!

Technique Junkies May 2022 Release Party!

Hi everyone and welcome to the May 2022 New Release Blog Hop for Technique Junkies! you can save 15% until May 8th on the new release stamps and save 10% using my discount code of TJ10Color!

We start today out with our lovely cat lady! I colored this little gal with some Catherine Pooler inks after I stamped with Versafine Clair in Black with some clear embossing powder then I fussy cut her out.

I used The Strokes stencil from A Colorful Life Designs to create the slash backgrounds.  The first one I put some Deco Gel II through the stencil and let it dry then added the toner foil and passed it through my die cutting machine.  For the second slash I stenciled with red ink.  I cut out some thin strips of paper to make up for some of the lost whiskers from fussy cutting then popped her up with an action wobbler and added the sequin to her turban. I matted with some paper that I colored with the same ink then glued the whole thing down to a black card base!

For this card I used the Beautiful Boho stamp. I created a background using some Brusho on watercolor paper.  I then stamped with Versafine Clair in Nocturn and embossed over it with clear embossing powder.  I used a die from my stash and made a cutout right over the top of it then used Twisted Citron Distress Oxide on another piece of card stock and glued them together. Stay tuned to my channel for a video featuring this wonderful stamp later on!
