Family Crest Applique

Created this family crest on request for someone as a Christmas gift for "the man who has everything.

Black Quilt Project
While I was working on Mike's quilt, I realized I lacked a lot of experience in machine quilting, etc., so I decided to make a practice quilt for my son Joe for his birthday. He's 17 and WAS sort of a little hippie, so I went with a mandala design. The pattern for the mandala came from eQuiltpatterns.com and it is called Almaaz. This is done from foundation paper piecing and is super easy to do when you get the hang of it. Don't get me wrong, there was lots of seam ripping and hair ripping!

The rest of the pattern came out of my head on the fly. I designed the rest of the quilt around the 2 colored blocks.

Velveteen Backpack
This is my most recent project. Remind me to NEVER work with this stretchy velour again...this stuff is a complete nightmare to work with. The pattern I got out of a beginning quilting book kit from Reader's Digest for one of my kids who wanted to learn quilting. The pattern was poorly published and they left off a few steps. As soon as I get my new glasses, I will rewrite the darn thing and share it here.

Finally Finished Mike's Birthday Quilt

Mike's Birthday Quilt
Whoa...what a year last year...really cannot describe it as my best. Got a few projects done including my black quilt, a few backpacks, and a couple of wall hangings.

Well after Christmas I realized I had 2 weeks until Mike's birthday for which I started this quilt this past summer.

I quilted this in sections as the throat in my Brother is quite small and my hands refuse to cooperate regarding pushing and pulling a king-sized quilt through a tiny hole.
The design was done basically on-the-fly. I finished today; his birthday was Friday, January 8.

Finished on the bed
