Box Card

Here is what you will need to make this type of a card.  At the end of this page you can find a link to my YouTube video with more details.

Heavy Cardstock - for the first pictures I used a 120lb cardstock and in the video tutorial I used Distress Mixed Media Heavy Cardstock.

Cut two pieces 4 inches by 6 inches, those will be your box.  Score on the 6 inch side at 1/2 inch and 3 1/4 inches on both. Miter the corners on the 1/2 inch side.

Place tape along the inside of the 1/2 inch score line. You can use glue, but if you do, wait for each section to dry fully before you move on.

Secure one of the 4x6 pieces on to the other at the 1/2 line, make sure you attach a bit below the score line so your box will fold.

Now you will have one long card with 4 score lines.  Next you will need to decorate inside and out in any way you choose.  You can use double-sided paper, plain paper, or in my case I stenciled mine front and back with my Tim Holtz Stencil and Distress Oxides as well as some extra distressing with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a flat foam blender.

You will make your aperture in the third box from the left as shown below.

That is your basic box construction and now it's time to work on the meat of the card!  This part will be extremely eclectic.  The main point to remember is that each layer needs to be 3 and 3/4 wide and cannot be more than 4 inches tall.

For my card I chose to mount a sort of gate at the back layer and then 3 "hills" to mount my die cut flowers with a total of 4 layers inside the card.  You could use acetate and stick flying or floating things to the acetate, you can use full panel die cuts, you could just make the basic stadium and glue animal, eggs, flowers, paper dolls, buses, whatever! LOL...kinda got carried away there.

Now we have our basic construction.  The parts above are what we attach our busses or other pretties to. Just remember to not make anything go above the 4 inch mark or our card won't fit into a standard 4 3/4 by 5 3/4 envelope.

Putting it all together.

You will apply each of the inserts one at a time as shown.

From here you will fold the box basically in half minus the 1/2 inch flap on the left and when you do, the other side will stick to the inserts because of the tape. What I did not illustrate here were all of the flowers and foliage I had glued to the inside flaps before assembly. I knows yours will be done!

All you have left to do is to tape the flap to the inside edge on the right to complete your box!
